Sad day for Movie world with Morricone dying. He was my all-time favorite. I’ve downloaded almost all of his 500+ scores. Only one I haven’t heard is Hateful Eight, and that is only because I’ve been off violence for about a year now. Going to break my own rule tonight and watch it. Should be interesting as he only agreed to do the score if Tarantino agreed to not expect any semblance to the spaghetti western scores.
So many wonderful musical memories he’s given me.
From The New York Times:
Ennio Morricone, Oscar-Winning Composer of Film Scores, Dies at 91
His vast output included atmospheric music for spaghetti westerns in his native Italy and scores for some 500 movies by a Who’s Who of directors.
While I suspected that the score for the Spaghetti Westerns wasn't written by an American, I really truly loved the powerful way the music in those movies set the emotional state for what was about to happen in a strange southwestern/Mexican environment that was actually Spain, produced and directed by an Italian with cheap American actors.
Thank you for introducing me to Ennio Morricone. The New York Times article is a wonderful tribute to his massive contribution to music and movie scores.
