Is limiting 2 children per family the way to save the planet? 4/15/2009 7:32:38 AM
Does this sound controversial... Because the Optimum Population Trust is concerned how the impact of population growth has on the enviroment. David Attenborough, has just become their patron and said, "wildlife is under mounting human pressure all over the world and it's not just from human economy or technology- behind every threat is the frightening explosion in human numbers."
So is over population the root cause of many enviromental problems?
World population is projected to rise from 6.8 billion to 9.1 billion by 2050.
But who has the right to limit families to two children, although a leading green adviser has argued that parents that have more than two children will emit an extra 11 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Many naturally find the idea of imposing restrictions on the amount of children we have is an abuse of our human rights...
In China a policy imposed is one child per family, but does that lead to a preference in male babies and a increase in infanticide?
Others will say what gives anybody the right to dictate the number of children a woman gives birth to?
But you have to agree the statistics on over-population is disturbing and we are continuing to erode the world's resources.
Suggesting we need to reduce the number of people on the planet is an explosive topic, what do you think?
