What should children learn at School? 4/6/2009 3:17:38 AM
It seems a long time ago since i was at school, we had the slipper and cane for punishment and i didn't even see a computer!
Subjects were the norm, English, Maths, Science, P.E, History and Art...but what are children learning today? Sexual education should be high on the list, the diseases you can get, the stress and responsibility of being a young single mother. In the UK, they are debating whether to show abortion ads on television, and abortion definitely should be apart of the sexual education programme.
But what about same sex marriage, should that be taught in schools? Is it a case that we just accept two women together or two men, and what is the answer when a little girl says to her mother, 'why has my friend got two mummy's?'....So should children be aware and taught about this?
Is your childrens christian beliefs being challenged in schools? Most schools in science will teach evolution, so the subject of religion should encapture all and the history of all faiths and maybe atheism should be taught so a child has a clear understanding to what each religion is about and also how immigration has affected religion in different countries.
Some schools in history lessons are dropping the holocaust to avoid offending muslim pupils...why?
If it wasn't for the British, American and Allied troops in World War 2 then I don't know if the muslim religion would be around today?
What about the new internet website 'twitter', it seems British children are to study twitter, so when they leave school they are fully conversant with blogging and fluent in keyboard skills.
One professor has even suggested that magic tricks should be taught in school because it boosts confidence and self- discipline!
Be good to hear your thoughts, but for me two subjects have to go hand in hand that is physical education followed by healthy eating...
