5 More Potholes That Sabatoge Success 10/12/2012 12:01:19 PM
Potholes that can sabotage our success are plentiful; we must learn how to drive around them.
In last month's blog post,I hopefully,made you aware of the dangerous impact potholes can have on personal growth.I know that connecting a pothole to ones success is a bit unusual, but the definition(deep rough holes made by wear and weathering) of a pothole should make the connection easier to see, to understand.
Potholes that can sabotage our success are plentiful;we must learn to drive around them.
Procrastination,Ingratitude,Idleness,Envy,and Selfishness,can stunt our success because they keep the focus on the self, ourselves,and none of us grows when we are 'the main attraction'.
Although these potholes are dangerous,they are not the only ones that should be avoided. Several others exist that are equally harmful to our personal growth and success.
One such pothole is REVENGE, a desire to get even, to make one pay for the hurt,or loss caused by another. This one takes so much time and energy that could be better used on something more productive.
Viewing things from the other person's perspective,or putting ourselves in the other person's shoes, should help us to get to a point where we can let go of the urge to 'pay back'.
Confronting the person, at the right time, with the right attitude and motive(s), may also help us to get beyond our desire to get even;
UNFORGIVENESS, an unwillingness to let go of some past slight,is another pothole to avoid,and like its relative Revenge, this one can suck the life out of anything positive because we cannot get beyond what was done or not done in the past.Avoid this hole by consciously letting go of the hurt, the past incident, not for the sake of the offender who may not even remember the problem, but for your own health and growth;
Another pothole that sabotages us and keeps success at a distance is HATRED; this one needs no explanation. We just need to make every effort to make sure we have no hatred toward another since this emotion cripples and stunts us more than it could ever harm the one to whom it is directed.The poison is in our system,and we know what poison does if left anywhere too long.Tenaciously work on ridding yourself of hatred;pray about the problem; seek help from a professional if necessary, and finally, confront the person when you feel you can do so.
In ridding yourself of this menacing pothole, revenge,as well as unforgiveness disappear too.
The potholes of DECEIT and MEANSPIRITEDNESS also sabotage our personal growth and success,and they should be avoided at all cost, but if you are able to get rid of revenge,unforgiveness,and hatred, these two potholes will be repaired as well.
Each of us has some area in our lives that need to be improved, and when we do what is necessary to repair these menaces, we are well on our way to achieving our highest and most satisfying goals.
What To Do Next?
*Ask yourself the hard question: Do I have any of these potholes in my life?
*If your answer is yes, make a decision to confront them as soon as possible;
*Share your findings and planned actions to rid your self of these menaces with someone who loves and respects you so that he or she can help hold you accountable;
