April, National Poetry Month-Write/Read a Poem!

Celebrate April, National Poetry Month, by writing or reading your favorite poems!

Each April, for the past four (4) years, I have held a Poetry Reading to celebrate April as being National Poetry Month.
Last April,I was delighted to read selected poems from my second book entitled "Coming Full Circle." The Reading drew a very large crowd, and many of the guests were children who participated by reading their own poems or selections of their favorite poet(s).

I must say, the evening was one of the best for me. Several children, some whose heads could barely be seen over the podium, bravely stood and read their poem or the poem of a poet they liked; I was inspired by their courage, their fearlessness,and I was reminded again that children can,and do, teach us adults many valuable lessons.
It was such a blessing for me,and this year, I am looking
forward to the Reading, but especially to the participation of the children.

So, if you love poetry,the writing or the reading of it as I do, make it your goal to get busy organizing or participating in a Poetry Reading for yourself and for those you know who love poetry as much as you do. Don't forget to include the children; you may need them to help you get rid of the jitters. Watch how brave they are;learn from them as I do.

Remember,it's April! Celebrate the month by writing and or by reading your favorite poetry. Don't forget to include the children!

What To Do Next?

* Organize a Poetry Reading in your community;

* Invite as many as possible;

* Follow up on invitation notices(emails,text messages,etc.)
until the Reading occurs;

* Encourage as many children as possible to participate;

* Limit the Reading to a specific number of minutes so all
who want to share can do so;

* Consider providing small treats for the three(3) children
who do the best reading(select 3-5 people beforehand as
judges);

* Grow and shine!
