LIVING WITHOUT WHAT YOU GET USED TO.

WHEN YOUR MOD CONS GO BUST IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES.
Our boiler went on the blink some months ago, and after a long wait for some internal part today it is finally going back online. Makes you think how thinks used to be. Now here I go almost about to say, 'In my days.' Yet it is true to say, life was so different all those years ago.
We had no central heating in my childhood home, just one open fire in the living room. It was a small house, and that one fire used to send the heat up the chimney breast and warm the upstairs bedrooms. However come winter, it did really get cold. I recall the ice on the inside of the windows as well as the outside. At night even with several blankets I would throw a coat over them all. Then come the morning, getting ready for school was no fun, a kettle of hot water was all you would get. You could wait for a solid fuel hot water system to heat up, but that would take nearly an hour.
So when your boiler goes on the blink, it throws back memories for me of times back to the mid fifties.
My children and our grandchildren have never seen those times, so different, so very very different.
