The Guys Lose
4/21/2010 9:56:35 AM

The Guys Lose

So my lady has the “check engine” light come on in her car. Well- here I am- the helpful guy. You know I just love to be of help. She sometimes has her car serviced near her work, but I’ll take it right by my house to the dealer I use- and she can borrow one of our family cars.
Well- turns out the locking gas cap we bought to protect the gas from theft is causing this light. I have the old gas caps, I’ll just put one of those back on.
So far this looks alright?
Oh no no- of course not.
The dealer where I took her car charges $100.00 to diagnose this problem.
The dealer near her work charges $50.00.
I’m toast.

But I’m also wondering about these car computers. My car tells me the front right tire has 34 PSI of air- but her car says “Check engine” instead of “check gas cap.”
My car tells me it is 63 degrees outside. It warns me when there may be ice. It can tell me how many more miles I can go before I need gas, and how many miles per gallon I’ve been getting.
In the world of my dreams a light will come on that says, “Change gas cap.”

One more funny thing- no guys will laugh at this. She won’t let me pay for this.
Ha ha- is that the funniest thing you’ve ever heard?

Believe me- I am paying for this.
It would have been so worth it just to pick up the car, plop on the gas cap from home, pay the fee, tell her it was free.
Why can’t I learn that?
