So with surprising my family and friends with publishing my first book I expected to hear many different things. The one thing I was not anticipating was ... can you send me an autographed copy? What I wanted to say was ... Oh sure ... how many would you like ... 10 .. 20 ... after all I get them for free. The truth is that my publisher sent me two books for free. The rest have to be paid for. I am glad they want to read it but they have to buy them. Now comes the hard part ... they want it autographed. Okay I can sign the book for those who live nearby, but for those who live 2000 miles away it then becomes a logistics nightmare. This is what I heard ... How about you buy the book and sign it and send it to me and I will send you the money? ...or... I will buy the books and have them delivered to you so you can sign them and then you can send them to this list I have. My simple reply was you buy the book on Amazon.com and when I visit you I will sign it in person. For some reason that worked for most but others found a creative way to get around that. ... I heard so and so is visiting you to go skiing. I will have them bring copies for you to sign. Okay that works too. And then there are those who said ... how come you did not tell me you wrote a book? So I reply with .. You were on the Publishers list to get a notice .. you must have thrown it away as junk mail and not even opened it. The silence on the phone indicates my guess is true. And then I hear those famous words again ... can you send me a copy?
