You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. I got a reply back from the Rocky Mountain News Book reviewer who said - michael: thanks so much for the vote of confidence. it's always great to get feedback -- especially when it's so kind! best to you-- and keep reading! patti.
She carefully pulled out my message to her that I enjoy her work and especially her recent article, and then she missed the part or politely ignored yet another request to read another book. First thought was that maybe she really doesn't read the books but rather skims them just like she did with my email. Second thought was she is just overwhelmed and doesn't have the time. I really do enjoy her work and will not hold a grudge, but I will send her my first review when it gets published with a polite note.
I ordered some of my books strictly to send to book reviewers. I found out that my publisher will send a free book to any reputable book reviewer if they just ask for it. But reality set in as I picture the reviewer with stacks of books piled to the ceiling to review and no time to accomplish their task, so why would I even guess they might take the time to sit down and send an email or do a phone call to add another book to their pile.
So now it becomes a proactive attack with an accompanying press release to find the one person who will give Rigby's Roads a fair shake. I will start locally and then spread out to the surrounding area and similar subject journals.
