First book signing

Last night's first book signing (2 hours) went well thanks to great friends. I purposely did not tell everyone at work about my signing because I just hate trying to sell myself to others. It is not my nature to do that. I can do it anonymously on line, through web sites to strangers, but I loath it when it comes to friends and fellow workers. I consider it something akin to begging. I mentioned I wrote a book just once to them and that was it. I never asked did you buy my book yet or anything like that. I just will not do that. I parked my Harley in the mall next to the signing table. It had a nice table cloth and a book stand to display my book. Along the side was an old style Victorian lamp which cast a gentle light on the display area. I had two gimmicks going for me. One was my Harley as it caused people to stop and admire it which led to some interesting conversations. And the second gimmick was my business card with my book ad on one side and my creation on the reverse side. I created a wind chill chart for motorcycles that showed what the actual wind chill would be riding at the most common road speeds, 30, 45, 50 ,55, 60, 65 & 70 mph. It was something every biker loved to look at especially since it was 30 outside at the time. Total results = 16 books sold. Best results = friends who made the effort.
