Perspectives by contrast 7/13/2007 4:40:42 AM
... This morning, a singular, translucent, silky-smooth fog falls upon my bare shoulders, like upon my perceptions… with the deliciously cooling, uplifting weightlessness… of a true summer. Yes, a true summer – finally discarding impressions much too hot, much too stifling… and, like blankets too heavy and no longer needed, storing them away.
The dogs are barking at something I cannot see. Something invisible from these heights of the first floor terrace, a privileged viewpoint, one would think. Yet, the dogs are barking at something visible only to them, down there, in the patio, under the chestnut trees. Reminding me, with a simplicity so humbling that it amuses as it amazes, that, often, the privileged perspective is the one we get… from the ground.
Apparent chaos, where harmony happens. Like in this garden, where unrelated things, like people with nothing in common, love each other, nonetheless. Sunflowers, much like the sun itself, not looking down on the strawberry patches – rather, bending, like lovers, over the juicy berries, whose blushing faces are turned up, waiting for one more ripening kiss. You know… that kiss of love, the one that brings about the full sweetness of the pulp. Then, there are roses and cabbages, embracing. Yes, embracing like they were meant to be doing nothing but – and maybe, like complementary senses of taste and smell, they were not… they are not. And long, downy arms of squash plants, holding orange-yellow flowers in their hands, wrapped around lush, scented rosemary bushes. If this is not a love dance, then… what is?
I don’t love (you) still. I love (you) in motion – yours, mine… and love’s natural one.
