A Sample Poem
1/21/2010 10:51:21 AM

I am trying to stir up interest for my new poetry bookntitled "Inspirations and Reflections, 89 Yers of Life abd Love". so I am presneting you with a sample poem out of the book, one I wrote to my dear husband a couple months before his death. Enjoy!

My Elderly Man

by Emma L. Willey

He’s an elderly man, but sweet as pie
Always nice, and good to me
But he sleeps a lot, I don’t know why,
Must have come from his family tree.

He goes for breakfast, comes back to his chair,
Picks up his paper, and goes somewhere,
His newspaper drops and his head goes down
And he goes to sleep, instead of to town. .

If I slept that much, I would never sleep
In my bed at night, I’d just lie and weep;
I couldn’t keep up with him that way
I’d be in my dreams all the next day.

I don’t know why he sleeps so much
I think it’s because he is bored to death
Maybe if he had something interesting to do
He’d sty awake, talk till he’s out of breath.

He doesn’t answer when I talk to him
I ask him a question and it does no good
He likes to sleep and there’s nothing to do
But let him sleep on until he gets through.

I guess he has listened to me enough
Over all the years we have been in touch
Can’t think of anything more to say
To make him wake up, not ignore me this way.

I love this old guy, he’s precious to me,
I should let him sleep, let him be free,
I’ll always like him in spite of his snoozing,
At least he’s not out there doing any boozing.

I know where he, he’s right in his chair
I’m glad he is there, asleep in his chair
I love him right here, even if he is quiet
At least he is here, I’ve learned to just buy it.
