The guy from the PPI compensation company called round this
afternoon.I left my IT class early to be on time for his
arrival straight after lunch. The usual forms were signed and
the normal pleasantries exchanged.A polite enough guy.I
couldnt help but think as I signed everything how this was a
company set up by someone who knew so much about finance and
the ins and outs of lots of legal byways put all his
knowledge together and was now a huge prophit making
organisation , cashing in on others mistakes.
It occurred to me how different and how my finances would
have been greater if I had taken that route in life.Yet
finance, econonomics, were always rather boring cold grey
subjects to me and always left me unmotivated and much
uninspired ,
It would seem that the caring profesions -education- and the
creativity of the arts were not the best way to climb the
ladder to la dolce via and at times only brought material
wealth if you hit the top notches of their hallowed
careers, yet there were still those in the lower paid
labour market who earned little and scraped a living or
those in the third world whos chief concern was food and
surviving every day .Which seems to come around to the much
asked question of why the lot of some differs so much from
the lot of others and why is the quality of one persons
life so better or worse from that of anothers.? Any answer
I could provide would only be some thin veneer to the
actual truth.IN TRUE WISDOM there must be as a line from a
Beatles song , there will be an answer let it be.
Shortly after the PPI claims rep had left ,the phone
rang. It was a former student of mine from fifteen years ago
He informed me that he had moved from Harrow to High
Wycombe in Bucks, which he assured me was a lovely place
with lovely people a complete contrast he said to Harrow
which he seemed to have formed a dislke of.He asked me to
provide a job reference,and I was happy to oblige. He
reminisced about my class and his fellow students and that
he was in my company as we watched the events of 9/11
unfold on television,a day that changed the world like the
september of 1914.An event that hit a family in my old
street in my hometown,whos son was killed in the towers
and a friend of mine in New York whos cousin was killed on
that day the world changed.
