The FunNSun Writers Group 2/23/2005 4:02:22 PM
I talked to the Writers Group at FunNSun Resort in San Benito, TX, on Tuesday. It was a joy, and I sold 7 books! We are staying at the FunNSun Resort in San Benito near Brownsville, TX for three weeks. A member asked me to speak to their writers group.
There were 17 in attendance, and there was discussion about local writer's meetings around the area and reports of the efforts of the member authors.
When my turn came I told the members about my project. I then read the first scene from Chapter 1 of The 7.9 Scenario, the non-fiction book I am presenting on my website to tell of my research that led up to my novels. That scene was about how I felt the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and became hooked on the subject of earthquakes. The reading went well, and my experience of "saying" the chapters of Memphis 7.9 for the audiobook proved very helpful. At the end, my audience was spell-bound. I even felt wound up.
After the reading we talked about my project and about the chances for a giant earthquake on the New Madrid fault. We also had a lively disccussion about the various problems of being a self-published author of fiction. After almost an hour, the group turned to other members who read some of their writings and received comments and critiques.
This is a great little writers group, and the members are working hard at learning to write properly and professionally. If anyone has the chance to visit them, do so. Tell them Sam said he had a great time.
