Crossroads -- now to Alaska 5/1/2005 4:03:27 PM
For the past fifteen months I (and my wife) have been on an extended trip/book tour in our RV throughout the eastern United States, from Maine to Florida to Texas to Memphis to Chicago and most points in between.
The book tour has been both successful and a disappointment. I have sold enough books to make printing costs for my self-published novels: that is good. I have not made enough to cover the marketing costs: that is bad.
But more importantly, I wanted to spread the message of the dangers from the New Madrid Fault to the entire United States and to generate a groundswell of action to plan and prepare. I have met a number of people who feel much the same as I do about the danger, but the mass of the people and therefore the local governments are not concerned enough become proactive about doing something about the problem.
I feel like I have been pushing on a rope.
But I have made some great friends and learned a lot about the center of the country.
Now it is time to take a rest. I have done most of my research for the next book in the series, and it is time for me to seek peaceful surroundings and just write. My wife and I are heading northwest on a six month driving tour that will take us through Canada to Alaska and then back down the Pacific coast to our base camp in southern California.
I plan to be more active in the blogging business now that I don't have to spend time in the book marketing business.
