Little Bits
1/1/2004 2:31:20 PM

Happy New Year!

Writing little bits 300 to 500 words a day or thereabouts on my man project Late Return has really paid off. I went from having 2,000 words in November to breaking 16,000 on December 31st. I’m still pushing for a completed manuscript by April 2004.

This progress has really surprised me because my husband lost his job due to downsizing in March and hasn’t been able to find work since. Having him home with me, has forced me to make major changes in the way that I work. I no longer get long time periods where I’m alone to work. It’s been very irritating and has caused numerous fights due to his consummate noise making.

Sometimes I need it to be absolutely silent when I work due to the depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the thought processes to be jumbled at times. On days when I’m feeling really motion sick and out of touch with the world I need it quiet or I slip away and start paying attention to the noise in the room rather than my own thoughts.

Other times when I’m feeling good, I like to listen to loud music while I’m working and it doesn’t affect me. I can even sing along and still work. Music really inspires me.

We’ve worked out a sort of armistice between us but I know that I could accomplish much more if he were leaving the apartment everyday for work. He just received a 13-week extension on his unemployment so I’m hoping that a job will materialize quickly so that I can get down to some serious work.
