One of the things the listeners and viewers of my talk show "Conversations with C. A. Webb" know about me is that I avoid discussing religion and politics in my comments on the program, since the focus is on the Arts and not my personal feelings. Today's show, however, crosses many lines, including those that involve politics.
The Farish Street Festival, an arts festival and event that has taken place for over 20 years is in danger of being extinct. Now, there have been factors named that could contribute to the demise, for the one that matters is financial support: thus comes the reminder of thinking global but shopping locally. It's not something you think of everyday, but you should.
Take out the black/white issue for a moment and look at businesses today that are locally owned and operated. Is there product one of quality? More than likely? Are they easy to find? Typically. Are they reasonable priced for what you get? Most of the time more so than the larger chains? NOW THE IMPORTANT QUESTION: Do they normally get your support? Quite possibly not. But why?
In my opinion, one of the major factors is the biblical principle that a man is normally not appreciated in his own hometowm. With that being said, I am restating my pledge to begin to go out of my way to support those around me who are trying to have somthing for themslves.
