Do – Go to your computer, research and join an online support group. Online groups are easy to join. You can chat and get advice in the convenience of your home. AARP www.aarp.org (for 50+) is an excellent source to get started.
If you’re not computer savvy or need to be in the presence of people. DO- Join a local Grandparent Raising Grandchildren Support Group. You can obtain information about support groups through public libraries, churches, physician offices and mental health offices. If you can’t find a local group, consider, starting one. What a way to meet people with your same challenges.
Do- Interact with parents having children the same ages as your grandchildren. Schedule play dates. Depending on the ages of the children, take turns hosting sleepovers. This can provide respite to you and your new found friend. If the children are younger take turns babysitting. This can give each party some hours off to complete tasks or just to decompress.
DO- Call upon family to assist you. Any small task they can provide can give you time off. If they can pick up your groceries, this hour may provide you with time to take a short nap or to recharge your batteries.
If necessary, DO seek professional counseling for anger management, depression or just to talk to get a professional view, opinion and guidance on your situation.
DO- Seek medical for health related issues and preventive health care.
DO- Seek comfort in God. Get spiritual guidance from your clergyman.
The moral to this story. Do Something. I can’t overemphasize this point. If you’re not healthy in body, mind and soul. How can you care for your precious gift from God?
