FINDING A NEW PERSPECTIVE 9/30/2008 3:51:01 AM
TRYING TO SEE THROUGH THE FOREST IS TOUGH ENOUGH BUT WHEN WE ALLOW THE NEWS EVENTS NAVIGATE OUR EMOTIONS THEN FINDING CLARITY IS ALMOST AN IMPOSSIBILITY. Yesterday I received an email from a friend of mine that included only a poem. I wanted to share this with you, but first i must tell why i received the email.
Earlier in the day i spoke with my friend by phone; i asked him if he had seen the news and did he have any thoughts about the decline in the Stock Market. His reply was what news and i don't care about the Stock Market. I laughed a bit and asked him what have you been doing all day? He said I was out for a hike, ate lunch by this awesome glacier, and wrote a bit amongst the Mission Mountains.
This brought joy to my heart because my friend was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, was a Daily News photographer for over twenty years and now he is living in Montana. When i first met Mike 12 years ago he would often speak of Montana and all its beauty. His vision was to eventually move out there to find inner peace and a better quality of life for his family. I always hoped his dream would come true but i thought it would be tough move to give up a successful career and uproot his family for a new way of living. But what i learned was to never get in the way of someone when there passion and dream is full of hope and possibilities.
Any way, I guess during our phone conversation Mike heard the concerns in my voice of the days news events; so he sends me this poem that warmed my heart and re-directed my attention to the important things in life that God has granted us; not what man spits out through uninspiring rhetoric.
The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my childrens lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in
his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am FREE.
