CHILDREN ARE OUR GREATEST GIFT! 12/1/2008 7:08:52 AM
Never take for granted the time you spend with your children. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Hug them, kiss them, tell them you love them, no matter how much trouble they may be at times. This past Holiday weekend the word Thanksgiving hit home. I have three boys two of which have a Genetic Disease called HHT and one of these boys has it in an area around the heart and lungs. It is a condition that if not treated could lead to any early death. So this weekend my son complained of headaches and nausea which continued for a couple days. We took him to the hospital and following some tests they came back saying he had a possible tumor, a possible HHT episode or a trauma to the brain. This news will numb you and elevate emotions and feelings that all parents will never want to experience. The thought of losing a child is the most heart wrenching and painful feeling you will ever imagine. But at the same time you begin asking God for help. You will do anything, sacrifice anything, give up your home and all savings to help your child. The trivial thinking we dwell upon is immediately disposed of. The garbage that we consider so relevant seems idiotic and wasteful. All my energy and thoughts are on my son, it can only be there, i cannot let other fears and doubts control my decisions and actions. A child is the greatest gift; it is a love so deep, so pure, so real that it does give you faith and a belief that there is something more than this earthly life.
My son is still in the Hospital and the tests seem to point to some head trauma that will be monitored for a week. This is good news. But what dawned on me is what about the Moms and Dad who don't get good news. Their child does not get to go home. How do they handle it? How do they live knowing their child may pass on? My son heard the Doctors possibilities of his condition and his young eyes swelled with tears; he looked at me and asked me will I be OK Dad? This is not fair, why do I have to go through this? I just want to go home! Hopefully my son will be coming home this week; in the meantime for any of you who read this say a prayer for the children who are sick and terminally ill. Pray for the Moms and Dads who every day face the truth that their child will not be coming home. Pray that their faith will not be shaken; pray that the pain they are going through will be healed by the love and memories of their child; pray that their love for each other will stay strong and carry them through this troubling time.
