My daughter's faith 10/23/2008 8:33:12 AM
This weekend my fourteen year old daughter (my oldest) is getting confirmed and I have been reflecting on her faith journey since her baptism as a tiny infant through Sunday School, first communion, and now confirmation. I am so proud of her deep faith that she carries with her on a daily basis.
Below is her faith statement that she needed to prepare and will read before the congregation.
Religion, joy, trust, faith, positivity, and friendship are all traits that run to me from our Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout these years, I have been attending Joy not to only find faith but to find the faith I know that burns deep inside my soul. “The Lord is my light, my salvation.” Psalms 27:1 I have learned to trust, trust in the Lord and he will lead my way. I learned to let him lift my worries up, letting him be my strength, my base, my home, and my foundation. The things I have done at this church or with this church have led me to believe he is not just watching, he is present. The Lord’s presence brings warmth in my heart and makes me feel a certain safety. The Lord may not always answer to me in direct obvious ways but He answers, He is there for me, He is there for anyone and everyone. My years of confirmation have been touching and completely uplifting. I attended the “All About We” retreat. Gospel music was played by a band as more than one thousand people joined their voices together. Through the Lord we sang giving me the reaction of tears. Never in my life have I seen that many people join together not knowing anyone but giving off the sense they knew everyone. As the youth group gathered and made cookies for the Victorian house, it brought a certain knowing of happiness. We personally delivered the cookies to the home. We stayed and conversed with the men and woman who live at this house, and it was a touching experience putting most of the youth in tears. “ I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13. God gives me the strength of a bear; with God in my heart, anything seems possible. The Lord gives me strength to do whatever I put my mind to. I can do everything through him. When I am having a rough day I simply say, “my Lord take this pain away and make it a better day. Through him I am strong. When I ask myself, what Jesus means to me? I respond, “Jesus is, faith, trust, positivity, friendship,honesty, purity, love, joy, everything”. The Lord is my Role Model; he is my better way.
