Create Strength in Your Life 2/4/2009 8:14:47 AM
It is easy to be positive when life is going great, but what do you do when life throws you a curve ball? As a life coach, I usually coach clients through focusing on positive thinking, having them tap into intrinsic motivation, creating awareness, and developing life goals and action plans. In general, I have a very positive outlook on life. I know--you are suprised by this news.
The true test of living an authentic, meaningful, and joyful life arrives when a person is dealing with the painful and sad issues that are part of life. One might argue that of course it is easy to be positive when things are going great, but what about when life throws in a curve ball, or encircles a person with grief or deep dissappointment?
I have experienced a month of ongoing illnesses with almost every member of my household and I have also been dealing with painful life issues with one of my teenagers (wanting to grow up too fast) and a grown up step-child (experiencing the pain of mistakes). I have had times when I literally felt heartsick. However, I still followed my daily ritual of prayer and meditation. I wrote in my journal daily, used my daily affirmations, and reached out to key support people. I functioned at a fairly high level in spite of the events that unfolded.
I had confidence that God would see us through everything. I did not practice denial or try to avoid situations. I dealt with each challenge immediately and with strength that came from God and a deep knowledge that I had to act, even if it was painful. Now that we are almost all of the way through the difficult situations, I feel deeply grateful for my faith and for the successful living steps that are part of each of my days.
My thoughts for you are that you would make sure to create strength in your life that does not depend on your daily situation. You will be well equipped to both enjoy your successes and handle all that crosses your path.
