Traveling alone 4/15/2009 6:57:56 PM
I am in the beautiful city of Atlanta attending a research conference. For the first time in awhile, I am without husband and kids. I am loving the mental refresher of just being me on my own for a week. I remember the days when I used to travel for work and flew three times a month. After a few years of doing that, I was ready for a different pace. Yet I missed some of the solitude, quiet, and peace of staying in a hotel by myself.
I know when I return home, I will feel refreshed. In the meantime--I am enjoying having six pillows all to myself and no laundry, pet care, or dishes.
Of course, I have called home a few times each day to get the rundown of the school days and my husband's work day.Everyone seems to be surviving without me (barely). I left my husband a chart of where everyone needed to be and when. He compared it to air traffic control and asked me how I managed to be two places at the same time. I looked stunned and told him that was my life every day. You know: work, PhD program, teach a few classes, carpool, make sure everyone has everything that they need and pay the bills on time. Just normal stuff.
So here I am at the Hilton in Atlanta enjoying my research conference and my time to think. My brain is full and overflowing with new creative ideas and ways to approach some of my research and I have three days left. I feel blessed that I have this opportunity and made room for it in my life.
So what are you planning to help renew your mind and stay fresh?
