Gratitude for my Daughter's Guardian Angel 5/18/2009 9:30:47 AM
Yesterday,I got one of those phone calls that every mother of teenagers dread. Yesterday,I got one of those phone calls that every mother of teenagers dread. My fifteen year old daughter was in a car accident with one of her friends- a sixteen year old driver. I felt the adrenalin surging through me as I jumped in my car to meet the ambulance. I had to pull over once to take a few deep breaths and calm myself down- so I could drive safely. I prayed the entire drive to the scene of the accident (ten minutes from my home).
My daughter had hit the windshield and cracked it- she did not click her seatbelt in all of the way- she suffered a deep cut, a sore neck, and a pounding headache- but three and half hours in the ER, a few X rays later and some glue to hold the cut on her forehead together- we could go home. Her friend escaped with no injury.
Even though both of these sweet girls were traumatized by going off the road and hitting a tree- I saw the beauty and glory of the moment. It could have been so much worse. I felt such gratitude and relief.
I decided to write this blog today- because I have always taught my daughter to buckle up- but never thought to add- make sure the seatbelt clicks and maybe test it- by giving it a good tug. She could have easily gone through the windshield if they had been going just a few miles per hour faster.
Today my prayers are of thanks- that my daughter is home and safe.
