California Wildfires 11/10/2007 6:52:06 PM
By now just about everyone has heard about the latest California wildfires and the devastation they caused here. They have happened before and will happen again, unfortunately. The difference this time was so many burning at the same time, at least 15 major fires. They stretched our wonderful resource people to and beyond their limits, not to mention the great guys and gals who came in from elsewhere inside and outside of the state to help. This time around we were fortunate and did not have to make a run for it, as hundreds of thousands did. The fires have come too close to us before, and still we stay.
Perhaps we stay because we know we are not alone in our natural disasters, including those started by arsonists. There is no region of the world immune to trouble and tragedy, and we all need to remember to help by donating what we can: time, money, means. And we need to get ourselves prepared for many different kinds of disaster. There is no lack of information out there now, as to what we should store, what we should put by for a rainy day, and what we should have ready to grab at a moment's notice.
