It seems we are having a short summer...or better put, it seems we are running March's weather in May. Rain this morning, no sign of sun, yet...I guess I'm the eternal optimist.
A little over a week ago, OK, just a tad longer, perhaps, I started reliving my experience with Rhabdomyolosis. Well, thankfully I have turned that page in my life and moved on. The medical professionals say I am over the dreaded event, my doctor says as long as I stay off Statin drugs, control the diabetes and get the cholesterol under control, I should not have a recurrance of the 'Rabdo.' For that I am very grateful.
Now for anyone that thinks I do nothing more than look from my 6th floor balcony, let me assure you, my life post 'Rabdo' is as busy as it ever was.
Here is a list of some of the things I am involved in doing, pursuing and chasing.
I still volunteer at the non-for-profit group Wrate Around Portland.
Along with a friend, I co-facilitate a writing group, and a regular discussion group.
One of my short term goals is that I hope to volunteer for this years annual Willamette Writers Convention, held here in Portland, which draws a large group of writers, agents, speakers... and so on, for four days in August.
Each Sunday I attend, with a small group of people, for a meditation session. It is an hour of peaceful reflection and contemplation.
My newest endeavor is that I am starting on my second book, a short story anthology.
The essence of looking out to the west from my balcony is more times than not, a chance to breathe the air, talk to my strawberry plant and violets... and remind myself that there is more than me to this life, and a good life it is.
Despite the dips in the road, this has been a great year, so far, and I am holding out for more adventures still to come.
