Clearing away the "confusion"...I hope! 12/9/2012 7:23:29 PM
About my writing..."style". For the most part, anyone who has read my first two books have given me positive feedback. Often, though, this a bit of confusion: they ask me why certain occurrences seem to be repeated in the books, sometimes much farther in than when they first showed up. I tell them it's just from different points of view but that sometime doesn't clear it up until I show them some examples in a copy.
I've switched what I do to "personal narratives", which I borrowed from the late, great Frederik Pohl, a Sci-Fi icon. I am not "ripping him off"; rather, I think of it as a homage to his genius. Of course, I use the "3rd person omnipresent" when I want to show all the characters interacting with one another or any time a wider viewpoint is required.
To know when I'm beginning a personal narrative, a paragraph begins with an underlined italicized character's name and a number in brackets, followed by a colon. After the colon, the next paragraph begins a new personal narrative from the person in italics. The number in the brackets increases throughout the novel every time that character is central. It works fairly well and I've been told I was able to give each of my creations his/her own "voice".
