The oriiginal "The Butterfly Effect" 1/10/2013 4:20:13 PM
The movie turned out to be less of a "downer" and better made than I expected, but... First of all, this movie, to my mind, is not about Chaos Theory (small variations affecting much larger systems) but about Quantum Physics. I guess the secondary title used was a bit less ponderous than: "In quantum mechanics, the uncertainty principle is any of a variety of mathematical inequalities asserting a fundamental limit to the precision with which certain pairs of physical properties of a particle, such as position x and momentum p, can be known simultaneously. The more precisely the position of some particle is determined, the less precisely its momentum can be known, and vice versa". THAT is where you would get the different realities that Ashton Kusher (Evan) has to contend with in the film. (I hope I spelled his last name right!) The title "The Uncertainty Principle" would have been just as mysterious and interesting.
As to my other statement, they did a good job with the film, getting the most of a mostly young cast. The effects were interesting and you definitely identify and feel sorry Ashton character.
The ending was more bittersweet than I had expected (I had never watched the whole movie) and the fact the hero made the ultimate sacrifice (losing the girl of his dreams) was very moving.
