57 and afraid of the dark!

Yes, I am.
I was afraid of the dark as a child and it never really went away. When I was an adolescent and old enough to beg off from going on the family's yearly camping trip, I quite often had every light on in the house all night.

I think this all stemmed from the horrific nightmares I had as a child. They were so vivid and bad, just thinking of them about them in the broad light of day would ruin it for me.

My books environs are often in dimly lit or totally dark places. My "night terrors" (which they could have been) shaped as a writer, for good or ill.

I guess that's why some people tell me that "they are too dark for me to read". I guess my art has a legacy of nightmares.

I still have bad nights and I still hate being jolted awake in darkness.
