Another gun massacre. Calling Wayne LaPierre. Does this seem familiar to you at all?
Here We Go Again
Seems like the latest mass shooting negates the usual NRA argument: The only way to stop a man with a gun is another man with a gun. How many guns do you think there are at the Naval Shipyard in Washington D.C.? And how did a man with an obvious psychological problem keep his security clearance? Several months back, a Florida state legislator compiled legislation making it legal for a person with mental problems to buy a gun. That’s the last I heard of it, but I hope he wasn’t taken seriously. Meanwhile in Missouri the state legislature came within one vote of overriding the governor’s veto of a law which would have nullified federal gun laws in the state. Didn’t we fight that war in 1860?
Congress now has a nine percent approval rating, after refusing to pass immigration laws and background checks when twenty little kids and six of their teachers were killed at Newtown. Want to bet it goes down even further when John Boehner, who recently sided with the Tea Party members in his party, who threatened to shut the government down if Obamacare isn’t
defunded? That really worked for Newt Gingrich, didn’t it? If those social security checks stop coming, right winger congressmen better change their phone numbers. And what about those mutual funds? Wall Street should be making calls now to get their buddies to smell the coffee.
It doesn’t help when the national press compares an obvious propaganda network to MSNBC. Sure they’re a liberal network, but they don’t lie. They just point out obvious conservative and tea party skullduggery. Anybody who has watched Rachel Maddow, besides an angry old white man, would have to agree that she treats everyone fairly, including the conservative activist who’s a regular guest on her show. Conservative trolls respond by claiming she looks like a man. Obvious homophobia. But then, homophobia is their brand, along with misogyny, fundamentalist religion and worship of Wall Street. Everyone agrees that Wall Street needed a spanking after almost plunging us into a depression, but because the democrats passed financial regulation, Dodd-Frank, Republicans take the lobbyist money and do everything in their power to make sure it has no teeth. Meanwhile Morgan Stanley pulls another boner, losing six billion dollars betting on derivatives.
Then there’s Syria. How do you deal with that mess? There are four separate wars going on there: the government against the rebels, moderates against Al Qaeda, Shiites against Sunnis, and Hezbollah and Iran helping the government. Some of the moderates are joining Al Qaeda because they’re better fighters. Drawing a red line in respect to using chemical weapons and not backing it up isn’t any worse than claiming Saddam had WMDs and giving a speech about it to the United Nations. Republicans know there aren’t any good choices in Syria, but ideology always comes before patriotism with them.
Are you aware it’s possible to make your own assault weapon with a 3D printer? Like global warning, it may be too late to do anything about the American Wild West mentality that’s getting over 30,000 people a year killed.
