Minnie finally made it into the house. This has been an interesting weather situation since winter. We faced days and days of ice and snow, no school days, and cold, cold, cold.
Out in the dog run only Minnie was left, all of her companions have lived their lives filled with the joy of a forever home, food to eat, no one to hurt or mistreat and someone to love.
And one by one they have crossed the rainbow bridge and now lay sleeping out with their friends under the mulberry where Rose of Sharon and Iris and Lilies abound.
This year I saw the face of total, complete and absolute adoration on the face of an aging canine.
The winter was just too cold for Minnie to remain out in the dog yard, and finally after all these years, 9, she has become the housedog she always knew she was.
Husband brought her in, the house was warm, a tasty supper was waiting, and all those cats Minnie had seen across the fence were now nestled in chairs, atop cupboard, or snoozing on the hearth.
Working at my computer set on the desk right behind the sofa where Husband lolls to watch TV I watched as Minnie took stock, clamored up onto the sofa, and gazed with absolute, total and complete adoration at the man who has been her special person for years, but is now the one she can sit with IN the house where it is warm, and no wondering if it is going to rain or snow or sleet.
