Awaiting action on 'Safe Surgery' regarding publication. Also, working on a book that will help you to interpret and digest all of the good and bad information 'out there' on groin hernia repairs. I find myself reflecting on the need to provide current and future patients, as well as family and friends of sick loved ones, with the information they need. We live in a sea of excessive and at times incomprehenible data and 'facts' about health care and the handling of specific illnesses. If doctors disagree among themselves on treatment options for common diseases what chance do you have of getting straight answers? In my own field of general surgery I struggled to write about how to obtain a safe operation, for example, by knowing what questions to ask, as well as how to communicate with surgeons who are pressed for time. And how to deal with surgeosn who don't want to answer your queries.
In 'Safe Surgery' there are a lot of focused pieces of information - we could call them clinical tools for smart patients - designed to provide you with instant insight or at least a method of approaching some aspect of getting a competent and safe operation. Written as questions you can scan the titles and find what you need. So, I'm hopeful that my agent will get the book to a publisher soon in 2015.
