A Rose For You

I bought a rose for you today,
And placed it in the snow.
Here at the place they placed you,
Just a few short years ago.

I hope that you will like it,
For it’s just my way to say.
How very much I miss you,
Since the day you went away.

I would have showered you with flowers,
But it wouldn’t have been right.
For it wasn’t me beside you,
When you closed your eyes at night.

I never had the chance to meet you,
In fact you never knew my name.
But from the first time that I saw you,
I have loved you just the same.

Had it been me instead of him,
You would be here still today.
But we know that didn’t happen,
Fate just didn’t go my way.

I had hoped to see more flowers here,
To go with this rose of mine.
But you know that I will not forget,
Regardless how much time.

Well I guess I should be going,
But it’s so hard to leave you here.
But you know that I’ll be back,
When Christmas rolls around next year.

This is a true masterpiece, Jack. Very inspirational, though sad in nature. However, the promise within the write carries onward, lifting the reader above the sadness. Definitely worth re-posting, again and again and again.

Augh Jack!! This gives me goosebumps. It's heart wrenching and sensitive and your words are always a part of living. Never known this part of your pain. Very tender write.

I came here for a Jack Roberts poem, and I got one!!! This is so touching and loving, it rhymes beautifully and it was definately written from the soul. I love this one to pieces. Why haven't you been posting Woodpecker??? Ya gots splinters in your fingertips!!! My my!
