Outside in the backyard,
Relaxing in the sun.
My buddy Katie rested,
After frolicking and fun.

Her backyard world was perfect,
There was nothing that she lacked.
How little did she know,
That very soon she’d be attacked.

She didn’t see the danger coming,
There was no way she could know.
That this thing would soon disrupt,
Her little world that she loved so.

As Katie walked among the flowers,
She was stopped right in her tracks.
When a little baby robin,
Flew and landed on her back.

She just stood there and trembled,
Not much else that she could do.
She had never had this happen,
It was all so very new.

She thought she was a dead dog,
In this mighty creatures grip.
As she tried to find a way,
From its talons she could slip.

Then as fast as it had landed,
The tiny bird just flew away.
And Katie now at ease,
Knew she would live another day.

She does not know why it happened,
She’ll never know the reason why.
Now Katie sleeps out in the backyard,
With one eye towards the sky.
