To Journey Mindfully

You might as well be headless as be heedless
For all the good a heedless head could do
Unseemly haste scorns mindfulness as needless
But heedlessness would have you hasten to
No-one-knows-where including heedlessness
A heedless head forgets it ever knew
And this is how you know when you get there
Where getting ahead is getting behind
Ahead of your body out of your mind
And no-one-knows-where can be anywhere
Except the place you are supposed to be
A heedless head could be the death of you
As it has nearly been the death of me
But whatever happens to us passing through
This passage in which we find ourselves now
The passing through makes us better somehow
If we embrace the passage after all
The mindful pass the place the heedless fall
Reminded as they pass to journey mindfully
