In a hurry

as evening falls

take a short cut

through the city sidewalks,

shops all closing

except 24-7

its empty

how does he make a living.

Turn a corner

unfriendly place

crushed drinks cans

litter the gutter,

look around

thought I heard someone

makes you nervous

when on your own.

Pat my pockets

ensure all is intact

wallet my phone

my keys all here,

still feel someone

behind me somewhere

quickly look around

no one there.

Hurry my pace

to get out of this place

before paranoia

makes me disgrace myself,

never felt so ill at ease

whats with this sidewalk

where no one

keeps following me.

Relief as I see

the end of the street

I walk much faster

so do those other feet,

like a fool

all hot and bothered

get out of that place

as fast as I could,

yet as I do

I look back uncertain

the mind playing tricks

wants to peer behind curtains

change my mind quick,

there's my bus

I make a dash

but still I still look back

at the disturbing place,

as I look

the bus pulls away

sure I saw a man waving at me

from the dark alley.
