This poem was written out of frustration. After many times trying to write a poem without rhyme. (free verse)I have sinced learned but this was the outcome of my frustration. My first love was rhyme. Sssshhhh! don't tell my wife.(lol) Sorry Love.

Meters, liters, weights and measures,
they're all the same to me.
Fame, fortune, wealth and treasures,
are futures to foresee.

Ideas, plans, works and schemes,
are just to name a few.
Wishes, hopes, desires and dreams,
no less will ever do.

Basis, structures, frames and foundations,
have never turned me on.
Desire, want, love and duration,
will last when we are gone.

Poe, Keats, Dickenson and Frost,
Have long since passed away.
Santana, Madonna, Prince and The Boss,
are artists I heard today.

As you can see, from lines above,
I tried alot today.
Maybe, I'll stick to my first love,
cause words I cannot sway.

It takes a lot of talent to get words to rhyme beautifully. I'm glad you decided to embrace your first love, Paul! Great poem. Your frustration doesn't come across as much as your love for rhyme does. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

You have such a gift for rhyme...go for it. The beauty of free verse is the rhythm and choice of the words.

Perfect rhyme and flow Paul.
I also love rhyme, strict or very subtle and I like to play around with different rhythms. But sometimes what I want to say has to run free You do both extremely well.

Excellent rhyming, my friend...
I had always thought I HAD to
rhyme, but some of mine are
free verse, and I find it much
easier. I do rhyme more often
than not because it too is my
first love :)

Great write, don't give up, at first I could only write in rhyme but now enjoy free verse as well, funny how some of our minds tend to run in rhyme!
