Weep, Willow

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Sunday, November 2, 2003

Weep, willow, fall from grace, your lovely form
With leafy lace; breath, willow, sanctify
Saddened feel of years gone by, outlast storm's
Inner angst, send back youth’s face, fortify.

Keep, willow, all my dreams, forever seems
So close to me. See, willow! Age speeds by,
Crowns of days, misled ways, as scheme’s extremes
Draw ever nigh, fixing truth, in my eye.

Reap, willow, cut my heart, rip past apart,
A useless life, counted strife, nights of blame.
Come, willow, burnish me, extol my art,
Condense the flame; drop your boughs, on my name.

Sleep, willow, bide in time, composing rhyme,
Wisdom waits in silent fate, past its prime.

The willow always drums up images to me of all kinds of emotions. Perhaps because they grow by the riverbanks, and we often wander the riverbanks deep in thought. I loved it, Willows are beautiful, and so is this write TY

The Wisconsin willow seems so sad as it droops to touch the ground. That's the image I get, reading this.
