The Portuguese version has too many syllables in some of the lines, so I had to cut some of them out so as to preserve the melody and keep the singer from tripping over their tongue!

ELA É CARIOCA by Antonio Carlos Jobim, new words by Joel Sattler

So sophisticated

So sophisticated

She’s too much for one man to absorb

And the whole world seems to stop

when she comes to the door

She’s so elegant chic

when she kisses my cheek

I get gloomy

Cause she makes me loony

And she makes me sad

And she makes me burn

When she walks in a room

they all turn around

And every eye is fixed upon her

And I just cannot choose

but to be so amused

Cause I know deep inside

What their faces can’t hide

They all love her

But she walks on by

She just walks on by

So sophisticated

Original lyrics in Portuguese by Vinicius de Moraes

Ela é carioca, ela é carioca
Basta o jeitinho dela andar
Nem ninguém tem carinho assim para dar
Eu vejo na cor dos seus olhos
As noites do Rio ao luar
Vejo a mesma luz, vejo o mesmo céu
Vejo o mesmo mar
Ela é meu amor, só me vê a mim
A mim que‍ vivi para encontrar
Na luz do seu olhar
A paz que sonhei
Só sei que sou louco por ela
E pra mim ela é linda demais
E além do mais
Ela é carioca, ela é carioca

Girls from Bahia are jealous of the girls from Rio (cariocas) but then again...who cares, both bunch can twist your head off!
