The Road to Peace
By
Carmen Ruggero
He had walked for miles,
On the red, red road to peace.
Hungry, exhausted,
And his feet afire.
The young soldier rested
On heaps of rubble
Red, hot red
Red rubble piles.
He is dying of hunger,
He is dying of thirst,
No food, or water,
Just hot, hot red.
He sought a moment’s respite
On the rubble, red, then turned
To see his footpath red
Hot red, on the road to peace.
Tracking blood, hot red,
Red blood from sisters,
Red blood from brothers
Hot red, on the road to peace.
Young lives, old lives alike,
All gone they were
Cold gelatinous red,
On the footpath of a dying soldier
On the red, red road to peace.

That's my thought about the subject. As for your writing, it has brought the feelings to this reader, which is the goal of any writer. You have succeeded very well.
And you did it in a very few words. Brava!!

Society needs a cure for its illness, and poetry is part of it.

They say this war will cost 300 billion dollars, but in fact, it will cost the same as all wars past. It will be paid in blood. A price we must be willing to pay.
