My Contributive Piece To Rebbeca's Challenge, This is about the Great State Of Florida
Where the sun shine bright and burns
The heavey rains soak you to the bone
And you might get bitten on the butt
By an alligator.

  A piece of the pie

(A Respond to Rebbeca's Challenge)

 "The Gated Communities”

A new community concept

Living with nature

In the great State of Florida.........

The American dream, a dream come true
To retire, to finally relax
To own your home,
He sat with happy thoughts
At his new patio
A dog day afternoon
One Hundred plus degrees
Old Major, his best friend
For fifteen years, a German Shepherd
Slowly walked over to him
Collapsed, exhaustedly, by his feet
Ok buddy, said his master
I'll fix your lunch. And be done.

He walks away
Thoughts still circulating, in his head
Boy! am I lucky
Bought a new home
In a gated community
What a great new concept
"To live bordering the wilderness"
To mingle with nature
As it unfolds, it's secrets
So. Hawked the developers,
Sales persons and builders.

As he was mixing, the dog food
At a distance, He thought he heard
A wounded dog, yelping
Thought nothing of it
Continue to vision his dreams
All his new house options
Were being honored
He was, as happy
As a pig eating shit.

No more hustle, rat race
Rushing and running for a bus
No more police,
Fire and Ambulance sirens

Constantly blurring.

He had selected and paid extra
For a plot over looking, the wilderness
Behind his property
It was contracted, that section
Will forever stay natural
Where nature, will unfold herself.

When he returned, to feed his dog
Only the rear half of Major
Laid in a pool of blood
As he caught sight
Of a twenty foot rouge Alligator
Lumbering back to the swamp,
The hell that spat him out
Within the grasp, of his massive jaws
Was the front half of Major
Limped as a wet rag
As the monster slowly returned
To the natural Swamp
"His Piece Of The American Pie."

brother for a time, I couldn't take the
humidity and bugs;-) That's wh I retired
in California! Excellent albeit, gory write!

Well sorry about the dog but made a good point as mankind encroaches on natures world and the animals trying to survive in it more and more of this happens. Maybe it should be a fenced community.

Much too sad for me, my friend. I prefer the northwood, where the wolves don't eat my dogs! Although I have wandered the Everglades, marveling at its beauty and wildlife.

PS One of my brothers lives in Florida, and he never knows if he'll find a huge snake or a hungry alligator in his swimming pool.

That's the Thanksgiving spirit! ! ! giving the ladies nighmares, Bill you are ghoulish today, for a moment I believed you were writing a innocent Florida piece, then I remembered the Everglades...been in the Dolfin's State a few times but never heard anybody shouting "who let the gators out!"

Well written and sad...but in defense of Florida, I have to say I love that state. My family has lived there for over 25 years now, and I hope I'm lucky enough to retire there one day!

Lets see now, half my dog in the mouth of an alligator, isn't that why they make electified fences and such...I lived in Florida for about 3 months before I moved back to Joisey when the weather is cold and the alligators only exist in my nightmares...ed

I hope you made that up!!
I've been in FL during the winter and in out thirties, my hubby and I were the you ngest people on the campground... snow birds from just about every state were to be found. As for living right next door to mother nature... normally that doesn't work out.

Such a poignant tribute to the state of Florida; gotta be careful with the 'gators. I know. Used to live in Louisiana, a neighbor used to chain his Rottweiler near the bayou. Told him a 'gator could get the dog; he said, "No 'gator is going to mess with a full grown Rottie." A 'gator can (and does) mess with anything he likes. Needless to say, Greaseball got got. :( Such a heartbreaking story! Well done, William.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Not trying to be redundant, but this is a well written, but very sad story.
