Startled she woke
From a nightmarish dream
Breathing erratically, looking around
The darkness of the room
Trying to focus upon her
Immediate Surroundings.
Realizing it was all but a dream
She saw him next to her
Resting her head on his chest
She nestle herself into his arms
Seeking the sanctuary
He always offered her
Knowing there she’ll be safe.
I gently engulf her
In my embrace
Softly Caressing her back
Kissing her forehead
Comforting her fears away.
This is the woman I will love
For the rest of my life
If only the Gods Above knew
How deeply I am in love
With only you.
I felt her relaxing, falling asleep
As I continued caressing her back
Occasionally kissing her forehead
What would I ever do
If I were to wake
To an empty bed without you
Where your passion emits
The warmth of my heart.
She drifted to sleep
In the security of my arms
I kissed her forehead good night
And stay there like a sentry
Watching over her dreams.

I can't tell you how much this moves me as someone who has never known such marital emotional and spiritual intelligence over 33 years. Husbands can have the most wonderful physical power to be able to protect and shield, but it's the emotional side that can be equally as needful. You portray it in glorious technicolour for us here, William. This goes beyond romantic - it is one soul laid selfless and bare in defence of another. A cameo of the love that is "as strong as death and as unyielding as the grave"... the fire that many waters cannot quench. Melting, thank you. xx
