Will I Dream Tonight?

After another warm
Southern day
I find myself
Laying atop my bed
Exhausted.

Praying for the Lord above
To once again
Hear my prayers before
The sandman dust my eyes.

I pray
I’ll witness another sunrise
Unless he has other
Activities
In mind for my existence.

Will I wear a gown
As white as the driven snow?
Will I
As an ex Marine
Be assigned
To guard the Pearly Pates?
Of Paradise

 Not before I prostrate 
Myself ‘neath the divines
Of his feet
Searching for uncreated words
Peeling them from their pods
Of Poetic webs
Within my head
As one would
Husk an ear of corn
Presenting my appeal
To save my soul.
