Good write William - very descriptive. I was homeless for a spell in NY in Greenwich Village. Slept on an old mattress in an abandon basement, it was raining and rain leaked through the windows. Good thing I had a girl to keep me warm but it was my girl's best friend. Well, that didn't go over too well and that abandon basement gave me shelter when I was down and out...

Far too many Down and Out souls out there today, and far too few that even care - especially our so called 'leaders.'

What this person is lacking the most of is confidence. I've always thought that if two homeless people would get jobs, say, at McDonald's as janitors or something or any kind of job, they could rent a room together for starters. That would be better than living on the streets. Plus, they could have a cup of coffee in the morning.

In the twenty first century, no one should be “down and out.” There's enough wealth to go around and everyone should have enough to eat and a comfortable place to sleep at night.

And the politicians are not to blame. We are to blame for not insisting that the hierarchy be torn down in favor of a more favorable way of living for all. Communism is not necessary or desirable, but community is.

I was on the streets for two decades and I know this, except for the mentally ill those so-called homeless people are there because they WANT to be.

Many years ago I lived in a box on the streets, now I live in a big box but with all the amenities...not sure if I have progressed or not...e

So sad...and so true. How can this be ignored like it is...
