This is dedicated to an old Pelican that would greet my mornings at Sunbury. I often wondered if he could speak who he would sound like and W.C.Fields was the only answer. Sadly one day after a tropical storm he didn't come around any more. I chose to think he just took up another pier on another barrier island here on the Atlantic somewhere.
I don't mean to offend anyone with the language. It just helps to animate this magnificent creature.

Augh! The wonderful wise eyes of the Pelican
He sits upon those large webbed feet
Balanced and poised and, then again
He has a voice like W. C. Fields
He squawks aloud and waxes appeal
"I don't like kids...
What's all the fuss...
Let me sleep , where's a drink for us... "
Here's some advice, "Life's a bitch
Don't drink the water fish f*** in it! "
Give those kids back
They're too loud
Get with the program
Avoid the crowds
Leave me alone...let me think
Go animate your poetry while I drink.
This is hysterical Susan....My friend were reminescing about WC Fields just this morning in reference to a comment he had made about Mae West. Coincidence or preparation??? I never see another pelican that I don't see and hear W.C.!

Why didn't they ever make that movie? This is one of your best. Not a bit of romance in it, which tells me something about you; Versatility, that's what - in loud and strong language.

This is so vivid though I have never seen a live pelican I can distinctly see this character perched on the edge of the wharf with his huge beaked bill tilted to one side speaking to you. I think he would be a lot like myself for some reason. lol
