I'm a dignified southern lady. If I lived back in the days of the "War of Northern Aggression" I would've been a spy... ladling out the punch and collecting information. I'd probably also be hanging at the end of a hangman's noose or eloping with some Reb...Yank or foreigner.

Who knows but the recollections come to visit in my dreams.

 Punch Bowl Mistress

Hello Punch Bowl Mistress,
With your ease of ladled smiles
Heart now standing open...
Just waiting in the aisles
Flowered corsage'd lady
 Where did your lover go
Why are you alone tonight
Watching others flow
Take out that open dance card
Then  find a way to start
Never lose your patience
Dance on out for hearts
Your Romeo is bleeding...
He's scared and must pretend
He hurts too much to let her go...
Much less to just begin
His absence is a hint now
To turn and let him leave
He tries but he's impatient...
While you still believe
His heart screams this favor
He never asked for pain
He spoke of distant pleasures...
Some future... all fair game
Sweet mistress of the punch bowl
With your educated heart
Your clouded eyes are blue now...
Much bluer in your heart

I'll be going to New Orleans soon, sort of like Savannah on speed. Many cultured ladies. Many punch bowls too. Hope you or your spirit will be at one of them.

Susan, in our dreams and imagination, we can be anyone we choose to be. This journey of yours indeed rings true and give one the sense of reality. I want to be a dreamer true. So maybe tonight I will dream of my Southern belle and a mint julip? Lovely poem. Bill
P.S. I wonder who my Southern Belle will be dreaming of? Me I hope.
