You can't expect someone to love you when you control every move they make. ~Peace~

~Sleeping With The Enemy~

Within the prison walls was innocent beauty
So full of life only wanting to see some light
She was told no one would ever want her now
She was brainwashed into thinking that was true
Friends said it would be a piece of cake to escape
If it was that easy she would have just walked out
No one knew the intensity and rage of the controller
Sleeping with the enemy had become her way of life
Every move she made was monitored by perfection
She had no one and really was alone in his dark prison
Her shackles were beginning to rust, and cut her ankles
Crying out for help all the time and no one was there
She tried escaping on several different occasions
Each time the punishments for leaving increased
More tracking, mind control, and many locked doors
Very limited access to any kind of financial means
Only escape possible would be to run away and hide
Leaving with only the clothes on her broken back
Every day that she is caged a little more spirit fades
She yearns to be free to feel the love that was missed
Freedom to walk the sandy shore at anytime of the day
She doesn’t want to be a prisoner at someone’s mercy
It is time for the prison walls to tumble down all around
Giving her the life she deserved from the very beginning

Penned to emotive perfection but so very painful to read.

Sadly, the theme that you explore within your verses is not an uncommon one in this life/world, Chessly. A very compelling and meaningful offering. Love and best wishes,

Regis

You will reach many with this wonderful poem, Chessly.
There are so many truths here, and there is hope within your words, all kinds of hope.
It speaks to me powerfully~

An accurate synopsis of being imprisoned. Walls and bars are not necessary, but the containment is just as powerful.

Best wishes Chessly,
David

Climb

I would pack up my life,
hit the trail of dust,
no borders would I see,
mountains not an obstacle,
but stone of steps to lead,
this shackled heart that paid the price,
to be unlocked and finally set free

I wrote this in Oct 2009...made me think of your poem, which is so heartfelt Chessly~

You have captured perfectly the bitter sadness and longing that so many feel and must endure. It is easy to say for others to say leave if you aren't happy but they do not feel the bonds not only of the enslaver but also of other obligations...family, friends, religion and just plain social values. Thank you for sharing this one...I am sure many will relate to it.

Sounds like the days we are living in, thinking we are free but are being thought controlled.

One cannot force love or loyalty. Mental as physical chains only tend to make one a prisoner never a lover. Soul touching, chilling words, Chessly.

Chessly, this is absolutely true. The solitude and pain in these silent eyes are unfathomable, as we call each other on our cell phones and go out to eat and work and church. The next day we do it all again. Your words are well timed and impossible to ignore.

Why do we have such a propensity to gravitate toward that which enslaves us? Be it relationships, chemicals, etc. Do we suffer some repressed trauma which seeks tp pathologically replicate itself and hold us in bondage? People yearn to be free; but do they really know how. Or, as Orwell once stated, Slavery is Freedom (we needn't look at ourselves too much when the shackels are on). Maybe he was right in a certain way. You bring to light some very dark and perplexing issues. Nice work.
