When I was young I never stopped to consider the small things in life.
I was always looking for the big large things to help bring me out of my misery and strife.
So I guess you know, I ended up feeling bad most of the time, because nothing big hardly ever came along to ring my happy chime.
I just couldn't seem to hit the lotto and make all that money mine.
I spent numerous hours and days wondering why my father never did love me.
Until one day, I heard one of my friends say, "I wish my father would fall out of a big tree."
Then the next thing I knew he had took a thirty-eight caliber and shot his father to death.
I use to hear how mean my father was and how he use to beat my mother and us, that's when I really started recognizing my good life health and wealth.
I started thinking how blessed I was for not having to ever worry about the old fools abusive blood being on my hands.
Yes, my father was an abuser in the first degree and forced many foolish demands.
We left him when I was about nine.
That is when my mother managed to get a real spine.
Nine years of mental and physical abuse.
During that time of my young life if I could, the old fools neck would have been in a noose.
In fact my older brother and I use to threaten to shoot him with a shotgun like a big Canadian moose.
Even though all of the above is true
about my early tears, fears and years.
I finally realized the wealth that my sperm donor father had given me.
You see I'm as strong as an ox and my health is good, no inherited diseases in my family tree.
Not funny at all, right? that's because you can't see the smile on my face and the happiness in my heart from figuring out something that at least my old man gave me good. It took me years to figure and calculate this out in my lifes equation.

We are in charge of our lives, completely, and the sum total of what we are willing to reach for, aspire to, and believe. You learned early in life that you can't keep blaming mommy and/or daddy for what YOU do with your life. Bravo. Nicely put into words too.
Great mind set here -- let go of the bad, rejoice in the blessings, and soon you'll realize that the blessings do so outnumber the pain. Congrats on your discovery of the "formula"!

I am so like you Grady. I overlooked an orchid while searching for a rose, time and time again. This is a very good writing.
