This isn’t easy, folks, all this poetry fluff.
You know, using pretty words and all that stuff.
All poems don’t rhyme, I know.
I long to write something deep, but it turns out quite silly
Subject matter, no meaning, just plain willy-nilly.
They don’t all have to be serious, I know.
Needed special words, took out my Thesaurus
Mind insisted on rhyming, what about ‘dinosaurus’
That’s not a word, I know.
Don’t forget the thing they call alliteration
If your poem has none, reviews cause commiseration.
Not sure that’s a word, either.
In each line, you must work to count every darn syllable
Come up short or count's off, you’ll feel really miserable
Okay, okay, that’s the best I could do with that one.
The good poets continually talk about meter.
My brain would only spit out the word ‘peter”
Don’t worry, I’m not going there.
I hope you’ve enjoyed your class for today.
I didn’t even give all my secrets away.
Bet you can’t wait for the next lesson, right?
