To every New Yorker today seems to be as normal as any other day. But to every Somali, New york is today a different city. A conference on Somalia is going on in NY to decide how to help this war-torn nation which was victimised by war and famine. The conference could take other issues which we don't know at the moment. So we seem to be hanging on the balance. Hope something positive will come out of the meeting. We know that we are accused of harboring terrorists who found safe haven in our territory but I think the American axe will not fall until a concrete evidence is obtained to support these allegations.

It is true that Somalis made mistakes by clahsing and killing UN and US soldiers and dragging their bodies in the streets of Mogadishu in 1993. We admit what these untrained rag-tag militias have done were wrong. Such actions are even against the Islamic belief. A dead body deserves respect, no matter who he is, his color or creed. Our prophet Mohamed Peace Be Upon Him had once ordered a group of moslems to stand up to honour a dead body being carried over to the burial site. and his followers said " the dead man is a Jew" and he said "RISE" that is what a moslem is supposed to do and not to dishonour the deceased.

In the city of New York today
A conference is being conducted
its agenda is how to help Somalia
It is a crucial time for somalis
A touch challenge for the world
A trying moment for the Americans
Somalis were shut off from the meeting
None of our leaders is present there
We don't know which way the ball would roll
Will the US hire new thugs to kill us
Or will they bring hope to this tattered nation?
Will US war planes reduce us to ashes
Or will they show mercy to these shattered hearts?
Through the windows of the conference room
Americans may look at where the twin towers stood
But through the flowers of our dream garden
we fix our mind on the Statue of Liberty
